Leonid Baranov, violin

Leonid Baranov, born in St. Petersburg, Russia, studied violin in Russia, the USA and Switzerland with renowned professors such as Aneliya Skliarskaya, Vadim Gluzman and Ilya Gringolts.

He has been performing as a soloist since the age of 15 and has already played in renowned concert halls such as the Vienna Konzerthaus, Carnegie Hall and the Mariinsky Theatre. He has worked with orchestras such as the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra and the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra under conductors such as Alexander Titov and Yury Simonov.

Baranov, winner of the 2022 Rahn Music Prize, was a member of the Philharmonia Zurich (2022–2024) and will join the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra as second concertmaster in the 2024/25 season, while continuing his worldwide concert activities. He plays a violin by Antonio Mariani from 1667.

Milena Marena, cello

Milena Umiglia-Marena, born into a musical family, began cello lessons with her mother and later studied with Rafael Rosenfeld. In 2018, she graduated from the Basel University of Music with a bachelor’s degree. She is currently continuing her studies with Thomas Grossenbacher at the Zurich University of the Arts.

She has won prizes at competitions such as Murten Classics (2018), Schenk Soloist (2021) and Kiwanis Soloist (2023), as well as awards at international events in Vienna, Padua and other cities. With the support of foundations such as Friedl Wald and Aebi-Luthy, Milena has participated in masterclasses with cellists such as David Geringas and chamber musicians such as Julia Fischer and Alexander Sitkovetsky. She has performed with ensembles such as the Modulor String Quartet and won prizes at Swiss chamber music competitions.

As a soloist, Milena has performed in Switzerland, Argentina, Italy and Spain with orchestras such as the Neues Orchester Basel, the Argovia Philharmonic and the Orchestra di Padova. In 2021, she reached the final round for the position of principal cellist with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich.

Alla Belova, piano

Born in Saint Petersburg, Alla Belova studied at the Mussorgsky College of Music and the Rimsky-Korsakov State Conservatory, later perfecting her art with Prof. Benjamin Moser at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Switzerland. Alla has performed in renowned concert halls such as Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall (New York), the KKL (Lucerne) and the Pierre Boulez Saal (Berlin) and has participated in major festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, the Heidelberg Spring and the Schubert Week.

As a prize winner of numerous competitions, including the International Lied Duo Competition and the Franz Liszt Centre Piano Competition, Alla has established herself as a soloist, accompanist and chamber musician. She works with renowned orchestras and conductors, and her performances are broadcast on Radio 4 and Radio Petersburg. In 2023, she recorded for Claves Records and performed with leading ensembles such as the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.

Alla’s creative spirit and extensive experience bring a dynamic energy to the Lucerne Piano Trio and enrich the ensemble’s exploration of the classical and contemporary repertoire.
