Erika Schutter

Japanese-Swiss violinist Erika Schutter studied under Prof. Thomas Füri and Prof. Sebastian Hamann in Basel and Lucerne, and chamber music with Prof. Anton Kernjak. She received significant artistic guidance from mentors including Ferenc Rados, Erich Höbarth, András Schiff, and Walter Levin. A passionate chamber musician, she was a defining member of the Medea Trio for over a decade, winning numerous awards and performing internationally at venues such as Wigmore Hall in London, as well as across the USA and Japan. In addition to her performance career, Erika Schutter is deeply committed to developing her own concert formats: she has directed the "Dachkammerkonzerte Brienz" since 2012 and the "Bärenstutz1" concert series since 2016.

As an orchestral musician, she was a member of the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra and regularly performs as a guest with renowned ensembles such as the Tonhalle-Orchestra Zurich, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Zurich, and Camerata Bern. She has been a core member of the Festival Strings Lucerne since 2014, where she has served as principal second violin since 2022. Her performances have taken her to venues including the Berlin Philharmonie, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Musikverein in Vienna, collaborating with soloists such as Maria João Pires, Hélène Grimaud, Pablo Ferrández, Midori, and Regula Mühlemann.

In addition to her concert work, she has been teaching at the Brienz Violin Making School since 2012.
